What is a Periodontist?
A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, including the gums, bone, and ligaments. They undergo 3-4 years of additional training beyond dental school, focusing on the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the periodontium. Periodontists diagnose and treat various gum diseases, like gingivitis and periodontitis, and perform surgical procedures to treat gum disease and dental implant placements.
Gingivectomy

Frenectomy
The procedure involving the removal of muscle attachments between movable and immovable tissues, such as tongue ties or the frenum on upper and lower lips, is known as a frenectomy.

Sinus Lifts
Some periodontists offer sinus lifts, necessary for implant placements at the mouth's back when bone height is insufficient. Maxillary sinuses lie directly above our back teeth. Due to anatomical differences, these sinuses can wrap around our teeth. When a tooth has been missing for a long duration, the maxillary sinuses might sag into this space, disallowing implant placement without adding bone height. The process includes lifting the sinus membrane and adding bone to ensure implant feasibility.
